MAIN ROADS — TRAFFICMAP
1128. Hon NEIL THOMSON to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to the time frame of
information on traffic flows that is publicly available on the Main Roads
trafficmap, noting that traffic monitors often provide data for one or two
years, with only a few exceeding that.
(1) Does Main Roads analyse traffic
data over a longer time frame, such as 10 years?
(2) If yes, what
is the average annual increase in traffic demand per annum over the last 10
years in percentage terms—for example, in the vicinity of the Loch
Street intersection, but any location on Stirling Highway in that vicinity is
acceptable in providing an answer?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Yes.
(2) Across the
metropolitan area, the average annual increase in vehicle kilometres travelled
over the past 10 years is approximately 1.5 per cent per year. Traffic volumes
on Stirling Highway have remained relatively constant over the last 10 years.
In 2013–14, that route accommodated 143 million vehicle kilometres
travelled, and in 2022–23 the figure was 142 MVKT.
