My question is to the Minister for Lands and relates to Landgate's satellite remote sensing services: (a) Why is Landgate decommissioning the Pastures from Space, plus land information support tool used by farmers and pastoralists across the State; (b) Did the decision to decommission Pastures from Space take into account findings of the Auditor General's 2017 report ' Management of Pastoral Lands in Western Australia' ; (c) Was industry and/or stakeholder groups consulted in relation to this decision? If yes, please provide details of consultation that occured; and (d) Given Landgate is moving away from remote sensing capacity, what new platforms is the State Government investing in to assist pastoral and agricultural landholders with their land use decision making?

(a) While Landgate recognises the benefit this product has to the limited number of subscribers to this product to-date, it was determined in consultation with industry that other organisations are better placed to market, deliver and support products like Pastures from Space Plus and reach a broader audience in the future. There are also already several other similar services in the market.
(b) The decision by Landgate to decommission Pastures from Space Plus was made before the findings of the Auditor General on management of pastoral lands were published. However, the decision to decommission Pastures from Space Plus does not impact issues identified by the Auditor General.
(c) Yes. Through SPUR, WA’s Location and Innovation Hub, Landgate continues to engage with potential third-party providers, and is investigating how it could make the data behind Pastures from Space and other similar services available for re-use by others.
Landgate also provided 12 months advanced notice to existing subscribers to enable them to source alternative services.
(d) Landgate is not moving away from remote sensing capability. The focus for Landgate is on leveraging its skills and expertise to source and generate value-added data for re-use by others, rather than specialised application development. Other organisations are better placed to develop and support specialised business applications. This approach will enable more Western Australians to get value from the State’s investment in data sharing.
