FOETAL HOMICIDE LAWS — DRAFTING PROGRESS
1104. Hon KATE DOUST to the
Attorney General:
Further to my
questions without notice asked on 22 May 2013, 18 September 2013 and 13 May
2014, regarding the drafting process for the foetal homicide laws, it is now
more than a year since the Attorney General stated that he had a draft cabinet submission
for legislation and that he intended to chase it up to see that it was
introduced at the earliest possible opportunity. Given the public commitments
on this matter by both the Attorney General and his predecessor, Mr Porter, can
the Attorney General advise in which calendar month this year he intends to
introduce the bill to Parliament?

I thank the member for the question. In fact, I had a meeting
with my staff only the other day about this bill, and I have asked that certain
aspects of it be expanded in respect of certain domestic violence issues that I
would like to have addressed in the content of the bill. I am exploring how
that can be achieved so that the bill can have a broader operation than is
currently the case. I would hope to be able to introduce the bill very shortly.
