(1) The WA Government is committed to identifying and implementing effective methods of speed enforcement for all motorists inclusive of motorcyclists.
While the majority of motorists and riders do not speed, excessive and inappropriate speed remains a contributing factor in up to 30% of serious crashes on WA roads.
In one attempt to find effective ways to detect speeding motorcyclists, WA is participating in a national project led by Victoria to develop safe and effective identifiers for motorcycles. When this project is completed, the WA Government will consider its findings and their relevance for WA. The WA Government has continued to look for other solutions.
The WA Police have identified that dual camera technology is now available and they are purchasing cameras with that capacity.
The WA Government will continue to monitor developments to identify safe and workable actions to include motorcyclists in speed detection.
(2) No. Should the National Front Identifier Project led by Victoria identify safe, workable solutions, they would be considered for use in WA before any final decision would be made.
