GERALDTON BUILDING COMPANIES — WATER RESTRICTIONS
I refer to the fact that building companies in Geraldton—an area with sandy soils and a high wind factor—are severely hampered by the requirement to comply with the same water restrictions as homeowners. (1) Is the minister aware that these restrictions adversely impact on compaction, dust control and concrete hydration? (2) Will the minister consider a broader application of water restriction exemptions for building companies in Geraldton; and, if not, why not? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank Hon Brian Ellis for providing some notice of the question. (1) Yes. (2) No. All builders throughout Western Australia are working towards the state’s permanent water efficiency measures. This issue was recently discussed with the Master Builders Association, which acknowledged that although the restrictions may pose some difficulties, there are alternative products and processes available which do not use water and which will facilitate these activities.
