PLANNING —
BUSHFIRE-PRONE AREAS
1173. Hon SAMANTHA ROWE to the
minister representing the Minister for Planning:
Can the minister advise on the progress of discussions with
local government on the identification of high-risk bushfire zones?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice of the question.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services, through the
Office of Bushfire Risk Management, is developing a statewide bushfire–prone
area map in consultation with local governments. On 1 May 2015, the Fire and
Emergency Services Commissioner will designate areas identified as bushfire
prone. The designation will guide planning decisions regarding the application
of development and construction standards in bushfire–prone areas.
