BUILDERS' SUPPORT
FACILITY — NO-INTEREST LOAN SCHEME
286. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the minister representing the
Treasurer:
I refer the minister to the no-interest
loans scheme announced by the Cook government in January as an urgent measure
to assist the struggling home building industry to complete homes more quickly.
(1) Can the
minister explain why, after more than three months, not a single loan has been
made as part of this scheme and why applicants are being told that none is
expected to be made until June?
(2) How do these delays on the part of the government
reflect the urgency of the loan scheme at its announcement?

I
thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The answer has
been provided to me by the Treasurer.
(1)–(2) Applications
for the Builders' Support Facility opened on 18 March 2024, following a
registration of interest period. To date, 41 completed applications have been
received and are currently being assessed, with loans to be issued as soon as
practicable.
