Community relations programs initiated by the Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI) include:
· Community Engagement Strategy - Throughout 2010 and 2011, eight culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) community consultations were held in metropolitan Perth, Karratha, Port Hedland, Broome, Katanning and Albany. Ongoing meetings are also being held with CaLD community groups, ethnic organisations, local, State and Commonwealth Government agencies.
· Funding Forums for CaLD Communities - A network of State Government agencies has presented two forums featuring information presentations and workshops on funding opportunities. Two forums have been presented in Perth, one in November 2011 and one in February 2012. A third forum will be held in Geraldton in August 2012.
· Harmony Week is a Western Australian community relations program that promotes cultural diversity and runs from 15 to 21 March annually. As part of Harmony Week, the WA Multicultural Community Service Awards 2012 were held on Wednesday,
14 March 2012 at the University Club. The awards acknowledged and celebrated the achievements of Western Australian individuals and organisations that have accomplished outstanding work in advancing multicultural inclusiveness and participation.
