(1) Who is
participating in the DEC review?
(2) Is the review
being carried out by consultants; and, if so, who and at what cost?

review be completed?
(4) Will the review
produce a report; and, if not, how will the results of the review be presented?

(1) T he Departments of Environment and
Conservation and Health, targeted construction and demolition recycling
industry groups in Western Australia and regulatory bodies in South Australia,
New South Wales and Victoria were consulted in the Waste Authority's a ssessment of procedures for asbestos
detection in construction and demolition recycling facilities review.
(2) Parsons Brinckerhoff, at a cost of $20 000.
(3)–(4) The consultant provided the final report to
the Waste Authority on 6 September 2012.
(5) The
results of the review were used in the development of the '' Guidelines for managing asbestos at
construction and demolition waste recycling facilities'' , which
are supported by the Department of Health. The guidelines have been distributed
to licensed facilities handling construction and demolition waste, and other
government agencies and non-government organisations that are likely to have a
direct or indirect interest in managing construction and demolition waste. The
guidelines were also distributed at the Waste Authority's construction
and demolition waste forum on 26 September. They are available on DEC's
website at www.dec.wa.gov.au and on the Waste Authority's website at
www.zerowaste.wa.gov.au for comment until 22 October 2012.
