I refer to my question last Thursday about vacant positions in the public health system, notice of which I had given to the minister. (1) How many senior administrative positions in the public health system are presently vacant or are being carried out by staff in an acting capacity? (1) There are currently 17 vacant senior administrative positions - that is, class 1 or above - across the public health system, of which 12 are occupied by staff in an acting capacity. (2) There are currently 16 unfilled senior medical positions - that is, level 15 or above - in WA’s teaching hospitals as follows: Fremantle Hospital - one oncologist, one plastic surgeon, two anaesthetists, one child psychiatrist, one breast surgeon, one coronary care specialist and one intensive care specialist; Royal Perth Hospital - one rheumatologist, one consultant liaison psychiatrist, one haematologist and one gastroenterologist; and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital - one neurosurgeon, one radiation oncologist, one general colorectal surgeon and one vascular surgeon.
