KIMBERLEY ULTRAMARATHON — ACT-OF-GRACE
PAYMENTS
701. Mrs M.H. ROBERTS to the Minister for Tourism:
I have a supplementary question.
Does the minister not acknowledge that his agency Eventscorp failed Turia Pitt
and Kate Sanderson badly in not sighting the risk management plan well in
advance and not getting the insurance details that the minister told this
Parliament his department had?

I accept the end result that the member talked about—that
those things were not done. They were clear findings of the committee. I do not
accept that those things made any difference and would have contributed in any
way to the outcome that we saw in the fire. If the lawyers of either of those
contestants have the view that the state government is legally liable, then the
government is in effect providing $450 000 each that they can use to mount a
legal case if that is the belief of their lawyers. My belief, having talked to
at least one of the lawyers, is that they are not of that view.
