CYCLONE FENCING - RAILWAY WORKS SOUTH OF ROCKINGHAM
I refer to the poor quality cyclone fencing along the new railway works south of Rockingham. (1) What is the purpose of this fencing? (2) Will the railway be permanently fenced along this part of the route? (3) If so, will the current fencing be replaced with a better quality product, properly installed? Hon KATE DOUST

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1) The fencing is for the delineation of the railway reserve and to provide a secure barrier to prevent unauthorised or inadvertent access to the operational railway. (2) Yes. (3) No. The fencing in place today is the final fence, although at an earlier time in the construction of the southern suburbs railway in the Rockingham area, a temporary delineation fence of an agricultural style using temporary posts and several strands of wire was used. This earlier fence has since been replaced with the current 1.8 metre-high security fence. The fence complies with the appropriate Public Transport Authority standards for railway reserve security fencing.
