(1) Is the Minister aware of the campaign being run by the Human Society International (HSI) to ban the use of 1080 (mono-sodium-fluoro-acotate) in Australian?
(2) If yes, does the Minister support the goals of the campaign, remembering that 1080 occurs naturally in Western Australia environment and that the poison has been successfully used to bring many fournal species back from the brink of extinction?
(3) Will the Minister commit the Government to maintaining its support for use of 1080 in Western Australia?
(4) Will the Minister contact HIS and advise them of the different situation applying in Western Australia than in the Eastern States and that the use of 1080 is an essential conservation tool in Western Australia?

(2) Use of 1080 in Western Australia is essential for our successful wildlife recovery through the control of foxes under the Western Shield program and I would not support a ban on the use of 1080 in this State. (3) Yes (4) The Department of Conservation and Land Management has provided such advice to HSI and liaised with other government agencies nationally in this regard. I would be happy to reinforce this advice should there be further significant moves by any group to support any such ban or controls.
