I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) (a) In its latest advice to the Environmental Protection Authority, the Department of Industry and Resources advised that its review of the environmental review management program for this proposed project has identified the following as issues to be addressed: options for the final disposal of the bitterns; diversion and redirection of inland stormwater flows that could lead to increased degradation in those areas; and the treatment of acid sulphate soils. (b) The latest advice from the Department of Fisheries to the Environmental Protection Authority was a formal submission on the environmental review and management program. This submission raised a number of concerns, including the potential impacts of the proposed development on commercial fisheries, recreational fishing and pearling; and the potential impacts on important ecological and fisheries communities. (2) Yes. (3) (a) As is evident from answers (1)(a) and (b), the Department of Industry and Resources and the Department of Fisheries have different statutory objectives and the variance reflects these different roles and functions. (b) The Minister for Environment will consider the range of views following her receipt of advice from the Appeals Convenor.
