(5) Was the loss or theft of any of these laptops, notebooks or palm computers reported to the police?
(6) If yes to (5), when?
(7) Of those reported, what has been the outcome?
(8) If any were not reported, why not?
(9) What steps have been taken with a view to eliminating, or at least reducing, these losses or thefts?

(3) There are no reports to indicate that there was any sensitive information residing on the stolen laptops
(4) All lap tops have a BIO password and a different access password.  It is extremely difficult to access the information on the laptops

(7) None have been recovered to date

(9) The department has in place strategies to ensure the appropriate level of safeguard to Departmental assets.  These strategies encompass and are not limited to corporate policies and procedures, corporate inductions, personnel structure of asset accountabilities and responsibilities, electronic security on laptop hard disks, inscription of Departmental identifiers on assets and locks for localised desk security
(10) These strategies have been incrementally developed over the last 10 years and continue to be enhanced.
