Can the Minister confirm that the separate consultative committees for each branch of emergency services are now to be abolished with hazard based committees taking their place, and if so what is the rationale for this, and when is this change likely to be implemented?

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority advises:
The current system is limited to the four consultative committees listed in section 22 of the FESA Act. I can confirm that the current system of consultative committees within the Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia Act 1998 (the FESA Act) is to be replaced by a new system of advisory committees.
This new legislative provision will provide flexibility for advisory committees to be established as necessary. The purpose of the new system is to recognise the role of volunteers through the establishment of appropriate advisory structures.
It is expected that these changes will be implemented prior to the 2012/2013 fire season.
