What a privilege it is —
Mr D.J. Kelly interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Bassendean, I call you to order for the first time.
Mr D.C. NALDER : A
railway line from Perth to Perth Airport has been talked about for a number of
years, but the Liberal–National government is actually delivering it.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Victoria Park, I call you to order for the first time.
Mr D.C. NALDER : We
are making it even more important because we are, for the first time, opening
up the eastern suburbs to Forrestfield. What a fantastic achievement that is.
The opposition would like to suggest that it was going to do the same thing, so
I would like to quote to the house one of the opposition's press
releases from 29 January 2013. It reads, in part —
''WA Labor's
airport rail line will allow them to make the journey within 40 minutes
Forty minutes! The Labor Party did not intend to underground
the line, as we are; we are going to deliver people from Forrestfield into the
CBD within 20 minutes. What a great outcome for the people of Forrestfield.
More importantly, we will deliver them to the airport; the opposition was going
to leave them one kilometre away from the airport. Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Victoria Park! Member for West Swan, I call you to order for the
first time.
Mr D.C. NALDER :
The other thing that we are delivering with this Forrestfield Airport Link is
up to 2 500 car bays, with feeder bus services. It includes the railcars. It
includes the three stations. There will be a train station at Forrestfield, and
there will be a train station at the airport. People will be able to get out of
our train at the airport and walk to the terminal.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Victoria Park, I call you to order for the second time. Member for
Kwinana, I call you to order for the third time. Sorry; member for Warnbro, I
call you to order for the first time. We are just burning up time with my
standing up and calling people to order.
Mr D.C. NALDER :
Construction of this train line will commence in 2016, to be completed and
operational in 2020. I look forward to the day when we will all be able to
catch a train from the Perth central business district out to the airport and
out to those eastern suburbs and Forrestfield.
Mr D.J. Kelly interjected.
