ATTORNEY GENERAL — LEGISLATIVE AGENDA
758. Ms L. METTAM to the Minister for Electoral Affairs:
I refer to the Electoral Amendment
(Names of Registered Political Parties) Bill 2024, which has been declared an
urgent priority for this government with nine sitting days remaining. How can
the minister justify prioritising legislation
to protect the government's political interest interests over measures
that would have provided meaningful protection and support to vulnerable
Western Australians, such as one-punch attack victim Danny Hodgson or the
introduction of coercive control legislation?

Certainly
we prioritised those. The member was present in the chamber when we passed the
coercive control legislation amendments to the Restraining Orders Act.
We did prioritise that. We gave it absolute priority. Danny Hodgson—we
did prioritise that by interceding in the litigation that was going on between
Danny Hodgson and the department to bring about —
Ms L. Mettam interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order, please!
Mr J.R. QUIGLEY : Does the
member have a follow-up yet? Does the member want me to sit down or finish my
answer? I will sit down and the member can ask her follow-up question.
Several members interjected.
