FARM SAFETY SUMMIT
532. Hon RICK MAZZA to the minister representing the
Minister for Industrial Relations:
I refer to the 27 May 2020 Farm
Safety Summit, which included discussions with key stakeholders in the Western Australian
agriculture industry regarding ways to improve workplace safety in the sector.
(1) Were there any outcomes from the
summit?
(2) If yes to (1), what were they?
(3) If yes to (1), will they be
published, and how and when will these outcomes be met?

I thank the member for the question.
I was very pleased to actually be involved in that summit, and I will be more
than happy to have a chat with the member about it after. In the meantime, I have
been provided with the following information by the Minister for Industrial
Relations.
(1) Yes.
(2) At the summit
it was agreed that to improve workplace safety requires a cultural change. It
was agreed that the ambition for agriculture is zero harm and zero deaths for
workers. It was agreed that industry would consult with its membership and then
advise the government on what the next steps should be.
(3) A government
media statement relating to the outcome was posted the day after the summit. As
indicated, the government will work with the agriculture industry to develop
initiatives to address the issue of workplace safety, and a further meeting
will be planned to discuss these.
