I refer to the article in The West Australian of 26 September containing comments by the Victorian Premier, Steve Bracks, that it was pleasing that the Western Australian Premier, Geoff Gallop, secured the world rally. (1) Did the minister announce on Tuesday, 20 February that Western Australia would host the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile World Rally Championship for the next three years, with an option beyond that? (2) Will the minister confirm that the deal to secure the rally for Western Australia was effectively in place due to the work of the Western Australian Tourism Commission and EventsCorp before the Labor Party was sworn into office? (3) Will the minister acknowledge that Premier Bracks’ announcement in The West Australian of 26 September is nothing more than a blatant political rewrite of the recent history of Rally Australia and that Victoria was outsmarted by the officers of the Western Australian Tourism Commission and EventsCorp? Hon KEN TRAVERS

I do not have an answer to this question. I think the minister was away when notice was given. However, a similar question was asked during the Estimates Committee, which I answered. I therefore ask that the question be placed on notice. Hon N.F. Moore: It was handed in and the minister was not here. Hon KEN TRAVERS: I am aware of that. Hon N.F. Moore: It is interesting to hear a request from the Government to put a question on notice, a request for which the coalition Government was often criticised. Hon KEN TRAVERS: I am trying to be humble and apologise for an error in administration. Hon Tom Stephens: He apologised, which is something you never did. Hon KEN TRAVERS: I was trying to be honest.
