CORRUPTION AND CRIME COMMISSION AMENDMENT BILL 2012
— GOVERNMENT'S LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES
510. Mrs M.H. ROBERTS to the Leader of the House:
I refer to today's media reports about the rift that
has developed in the government over the proposed Corruption and Crime
Commission legislation.
(1) Will the government still be pursuing the new Corruption
and Crime Commission laws?
(2) If yes, do
they rank higher or lower than the out-of-control party legislation, police
pursuit legislation or the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition (Western Australia)
Amendment Bill 2012?
(3) Will the
Leader of the House bring CCC legislation before the Parliament next week; and,
if not, why not?

Mr Speaker, my understanding of questions in this house—you can correct
me if I am wrong—is that they have to be directed to a minister with
ministerial responsibilities —
Mrs M.H. Roberts :
You've got responsibility as Leader of the House.
The SPEAKER :
Members, if you consult standing orders, you will see that questions can be
directed to the Leader of the House.
Dr K.D. HAMES : The
answer to the question is that that has not been decided yet. The Premier is
responsible for the legislation. We have frequent discussions about the
business of the house, as the manager of opposition business knows. I regularly
discuss with her stuff that we are bringing on and when we are bringing it on.
Mr E.S. Ripper : I
think this answer translates as, ''I'm not sure I don't
know.''
Dr K.D. HAMES : No,
it does not translate that way at all. I do know but I do not necessarily have
to say.
