GRAYLANDS
HOSPITAL — PSYCHIATRIC PRACTICE
1. 233. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the Minister for Mental Health:
(1) Does the
minister concede that she advised the house in her statement this afternoon —
The
Department of Health will attempt to advise all patients in question of the SAT
determination and of their rights to obtain legal advice. It is anticipated
that this may involve 214 people. However, the Department of Health is
currently undertaking a full review of patient files for the period in
question.
(2) Does the
minister accept that her refusal to name the doctor makes it much harder for
these patients to obtain their legal advice?

I thank the
member for the question.
(1)–(2) Absolutely
not. What is taking place at the moment is that the staff at Graylands Hospital
are going through every single piece of documentation, whether it is a second
opinion, a prescription for medication or an authorisation for any form of
treatment whatsoever; every single piece of documentation is being gone through
at the moment, to identify whether that doctor has been involved in authorising
any of those treatments or services. Those patients will be contacted by the
Department of Health.
