(1)-(3) Since the election I have had contact with almost 50 local authorities.  When one considers that there are 142 authorities in Western Australia, and the Cocos and Christmas Islands, I am not doing too badly in the contact stakes.  I met some of those authorities in zone and ward conferences, so there were large clusters of representatives at any one meeting.  I will continue to be available to local government in a determined and energetic way. Today during Local Government Week I met with the Country Shire Councils Association, insofar as I opened its conference.  I had the opportunity of listening to the debate on the single association issue.  On Sunday, I attended the meeting of metropolitan councils of the Local Government Association of Western Australia.  On Monday I met representatives from the Country Urban Councils Association in an open forum.  On a number of occasions I have met with the executive of the Western Australian Municipal Association and I continue to meet with many shire councils. On Sunday I met with representatives of the central ward of the wheatbelt area at a ward conference, after I met with the Local Government Association.  The central ward representatives raised with me a series of issues of vital importance to them.  A large number of people in that ward are significantly affected by the drought.  They made a series of very good suggestions, some of which Hon Kim Chance - The PRESIDENT:  Order!  I trust the member will get to the one suggestion that was the subject of the question, rather than a range of very good suggestions. Hon TOM STEPHENS:  A range of issues was raised and at the end of the conference the issue of one vote, one value was raised by an individual delegate.  I expect to receive information on a motion to be dealt with today by the Country Shire Councils Association.  I shall reply to that in terms similar to the terms in which I addressed the conference; that is, I hope the delegates at the conference will forgive this Government if it proceeds to deliver to Western Australia its pre-election commitments of which this is one.
