PETER OATES — APPOINTMENT AS CONSULTANT
I refer to Mr Peter Oates being hired as a consultant to provide advice to the minister on energy issues and to the minister’s statement to this house that Mr Peter Oates is representing him on the Gas Supply and Emergency Management Committee. (1) Why is Mr Oates representing the minister on this committee given that the minister holds only two portfolios? (2) Why did the minister not get an internal agency person or his chief executive officer to represent him on this committee? (3) Is Mr Oates’s representation of the minister on this committee an indication that the minister is not across his portfolio? (4) Is Mr Oates’s representation on this committee part of his contract? (5) Will the minister table the contract? (6) If no to (5), why not? The PRESIDENT : Before the Minister for Energy commences to answer the question, again I wish to refer Hon Ljiljanna Ravlich to the standing orders. She may wish to look at standing order 140 more closely than she obviously has done in the past 24 hours. Hon PETER COLLIER
