TYRES — STORAGE —
BELMONT
707. Mrs A.K. HAYDEN to the Premier:
I refer to numerous media reports on Seven Nightly News
around the inappropriate storage of tyres and the alleged involvement of
disgraced WA Labor MP Barry Urban.
(1) Can the Premier update the house on the status of the
tyre scam?
(2) Is the
Premier aware of any government departments being ripped off by Mr Barry Urban
or this scam?
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members, ladies and gentlemen, have you
finished? The Premier is on his feet. He has been asked a question; wait for
the answer.

I saw on the news the other day the images of tyres being stored in what
appeared to be a rental property in Belmont. I was immediately in contact with
the Minister for Environment to ensure that those tyres were removed. I thought
they were a fire hazard. Clearly, no-one should have to endure that in their
neighbourhood. Fortunately, the Minister for Environment was already on the
case and ensuring that the tyres were being removed. That was a good outcome.
In relation to the other matters, I understand that they are before the court
or could potentially be brought before the court.
