JASON DAVID OGIER - 16-MONTH SENTENCE FOR CHILD ABUSE
I refer to Jason David Ogier, who was given a 16-month sentence for burning his three-year-old son with a cigarette lighter, pulling off a fingernail with pliers, rubbing chilli powder on his back until it blistered, kicking his son with steel-capped boots and slapping his son’s head repeatedly. (1) Will the Attorney General give an explanation as to why this sentence was so light, given the horrific circumstances? (2) What is the maximum sentence that can be given for horrific crimes of child abuse such as this? (3) Will the Director of Public Prosecutions appeal the sentence? Hon SUE ELLERY
