Disaster recovery funding arrangements for Western Australia—Shire
of East Pilbara—Flood damage
956. Hon Julie Freeman to
the minister representing the Minister for Emergency
Services:
I refer to question
without notice 925 asked by Hon Neil Thomson regarding the Disaster Recovery
Funding Arrangements (DRFA) for Western Australia in relation to the Shire of
East Pilbara.
(1) Noting the minister's awareness of the shire's
concerns that the scope of works under the DRFA will not provide a
like-for-like restoration of roads to their pre-disaster condition, will the minister
or the department advocate on the shire's behalf for a fair and equitable
outcome?
(2) Does the minister consider that the works
proposed under the current scope are adequate to restore the affected roads to
their pre-disaster standard?
(3) When can the shire expect a response from the minister
regarding the disparity identified in the proposed scope of works?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. I provide the following
answer on behalf of the minister representing the Minister for Emergency
Services.
(1)–(2) The DRFA is the Commonwealth's
scheme to support states and territories with the cost burden following
disaster events. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) administers
the DRFA on behalf of the Commonwealth and supports local governments with
compliance under the scheme.
(3) DFES continues to
work with the Shire of East Pilbara to support the restoration of roads damaged
by eligible events.
