382. Hon STEPHEN DAWSON to the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs:
(1) Can the
minister confirm that the Beagle Bay general store building structure contains
asbestos-related materials?
(2) Is the
minister aware that recent break-ins to the building may have caused damage to
the building structure?
(3) Will the
minister commit to investigating whether the community is now at risk from
asbestos-related materials dislodged by damage to the building; and, if not,
why not?
(4) If yes to
(3), when will this investigation take place and who will undertake it?

The Aboriginal Lands Trust has previously been advised of the presence of
asbestos, but any current risk will need to be assessed. The ALT has not been
advised of any recent break-ins or damage. I have asked the Department of
Aboriginal Affairs to investigate and to take any appropriate action.
