(1) Submissions were invited through a local, State and national marketing campaign.
(2) A total of eight submissions were received. Two of these submissions were received late and not considered.
(3) All submissions were assessed by a panel against the criteria nominated in the sales documents. BHP's submission outranked all other submissions.
(4) Through the Royalties for Regions program, the State Government has committed over $75 million to the development of the South Hedland Town Centre. Substantial works have already been completed with the new main street and town park now open for use. Works are currently underway to upgrade drainage and create 8 mixed use lots (including those recently allocated to BHP). Construction works will shortly commence on the adjacent Lot 21 by Humfrey Land Developments Pty Ltd. This mixed use development will include ground floor commercial tenancies plus 104 residential units. A hotel site has also been created immediately to the south of the Town Centre park and will be released to the market once existing land uses can be relocated. The next phase of works, to be complete during 2012 will create 8 additional Town Centre (mixed use) development opportunities including the potential for more than 1000 dwellings.
