I refer to the Government’s recent announcement to relocate the Department of Parks and Wildlife headquarters to Koombana Drive, Bunbury, and I ask: (a) what archaeological surveys and excavations have been completed on lot 883 Koombana Drive, Bunbury to determine if any shipwrecks or artefacts of maritime significance are located on the site; (b) does the Western Australian Museum require archaeological surveys and excavations to be completed on lot 883 Koombana Drive, Bunbury prior to consideration of any development proposal on lot 883; and (c) has the Western Australian Museum identified the location of all 12 shipwrecks understood to be located in reclaimed land along the Koombana Drive foreshore at Bunbury?

(b) No, the Western Australian Museum can only recommend pre-development works be carried out, however should future development of the site reveal any items covered by the Maritime Archaeology Act 1973, they would also be automatically protected and any potential damage would need to be mitigated under appropriate arrangements to be agreed with the Western Australian Museum.
