DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH — CONTRACTORS
I refer to the minister anointing the now-disgraced former Director General of Health, Neale Fong, his complicity in Dr Fong’s empire building that cost Western Australia millions of dollars, and the fact that at least two of the Fong-appointed contractors have had their contracts cancelled. (1) Can the minister confirm that Jeff Ovens had his $440 000 contract for 2 000 hours terminated? (2) Have Ross Keesing and John Clark had their $1.75 million contracts cancelled? (3) Which other contracts have been terminated and what was their value? (4) What was the amount paid out by the government to cease these contracts? Mr J.A. McGINTY

(1)-(4) As I said in Parliament on Tuesday, the Fong era is over. We look forward to a bright and prosperous future for health care delivery in Western Australia under the director generalship of the acting director general, Dr Peter Flett. I also mentioned during that debate on Tuesday—I received no immediate interest or response to it—that a review of contracts in the Department of Health was being undertaken and that two of the contracts that had been the subject of some public speculation had been terminated. I reported that matter to the Parliament two days ago. Dr K.D. Hames : How much did that cost? Mr J.A. McGINTY : Nothing.
