Decarbonisation—LNG exports
991. Hon Sophie McNeill to the Minister for the
Environment:
I refer to recent
media reporting on the government-commissioned Western Australian gas exports
and decarbonisation study that warned of the significant risk of liquefied
natural gas crowding out renewables and gas demand decreasing.
(1) When was the minister first briefed or made
aware of the content of the report, noting that FOI requests have shown that the
Premier was briefed on a draft of the report in December?
(2) Was the minister aware of the risks raised in
this report prior to the state government's approval of the North West Shelf gas
extension?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. I provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for the Environment, who is out of the chamber
on urgent parliamentary business.
(1)–(2) Reporting by the media has
mischaracterised the range of findings outlined in the report, which the government
has tabled in full in Parliament today.
