(1) Is it a vile crime, to use the minister’s words on ABC radio this morning, for a man to brutally rape a five-year-old girl and give her a sexually transmitted disease? (2) Is the same crime any less vile if the child is brutally raped but does not contract a sexually transmitted disease? (3) If the minister agrees, as do the whole community and the Opposition, that both those offences are abhorrent in the extreme, why does the minister, the Premier and all their Labor colleagues oppose the mandatory reporting of all sexual abuse of Western Australian children? Mr J.A. McGINTY

(1)-(3) The answer to the first question is yes; the answer to the second question is no; and I believe the Minister for Community Development has just answered the third question.
