A WA parliamentary question inquired about the possibility of Transperth moving to a .info domain. The response indicated that a change was not considered due to cost and the existing domain's familiarity, but alternative domains were secured to redirect to the main site.

(b) if so, what benefits and disadvantages of moving to a .info domain site were identified, and what was the basis of the decision to remain with the dedicated .wa.gov.au site address; (c) if these benefits and disadvantages were not considered, why not; and (d) will the Minister ensure that this option is considered by Transperth at the earliest opportunity?
(c) if these benefits and disadvantages were not considered, why not; and (d) will the Minister ensure that this option is considered by Transperth at the earliest opportunity?
(d) will the Minister ensure that this option is considered by Transperth at the earliest opportunity?
(b) & (c) Although Transperth was aware of the options of using other domain names, a change of name was not given serious consideration as the existing domain name is widely known and published throughout the Transperth network on infrastructure, timetables, signage and rolling stock and any change would have resulted in a significant cost for little benefit. Nevertheless, the Public Transport Authority has recognised that current and prospective public transport users might input various domain names in looking for Transperth information. To that end, the following domain names have been secured and links will be created from these addresses to the existing Transperth website: www.transperth.com.au www.transperth.info www.perthbuses.com www.perthbustimetable.com www.perthferries.com www.perthjourneyplanner.com www.perthpublictransport.com www.perthtrains.com www.perthtraintimetable.com It is worth noting that the Transperth website has approximately 15 000 individual visitors per week, who are obviously familiar with the existing domain name. Over the past five years, only one customer comment is on record suggesting an alternative domain name. It is quite likely that many users of the Transperth website, including most new visitors, use a search engine and type in the word “Transperth” to reach the site very quickly. Regular users no doubt bookmark the existing site for quick access and therefore the existing domain name is fine from their viewpoint. (d) Transperth does not intend to reconsider the use of the .info domain for the reasons stated previously.
