I refer to Tender DCS0232014 in relation to the Provision of Meat Inspection Services for the Karnet Prison Farm Abattoir, and in light of its current status - 'No Offers Received' - ask as at 17 February 2015: (a) are inspections currently being undertaken ante-mortem and post-mortem by an authorised officer; (b) if yes to (a) what is the name of the authorised officer or officers undertaking the inspections; (c) if no to (a) why not; (d) if no to (a) for how long have authorised ante- and post-mortem inspections not taken place; (e) will the tender be re-advertised and if so, when; and (f) what arrangements are in place for inspections by authorised officers until the tender is awarded and commences?

The Department of Corrective Services advises:
(a) Yes.
(b) Meat inspections are carried out by staff from the Department of Health.
(c) -(d) Not Applicable
(e) The tender will not be re-advertised at this time. The Department of Corrective Services is currently pursuing options for Meat Inspection Services to be provided by local shires, or by other agencies.
(f) The Department of Health will continue to carry out inspections until an alternative provider is sourced by the Department. The Department of Health has not provided a cessation date for inspection services at Karnet Prison Farm.
