I refer to the comment in The West Australian today by the executive director of the Australian Institute of Petrol, Brian Nye, who says that he has been unsuccessfully seeking a meeting with the Premier and that he was not aware of his six-week deadline. (1) Has the Premier advised oil companies in writing of his deadline; and, if so, when were they advised and will the Premier table that letter? (2) If not, does this not indicate that the Premier is simply making his policy up as he goes along so as to avoid doing what the select committee called for - implement government regulation of fuel prices? Mr COURT

(1)-(2) I made that public announcement in Parliament yesterday. Those companies will be written to formally, but we are determining what we believe is the appropriate definition of that terminal gate price. They will be advised that we want them on a voluntary basis to allow us to publish that information. Mr Ripper: Will you release the letter? Mr COURT: Yes, I will certainly release that letter.
