ROADWORKS —
TIMBER CLEARANCES
1510. Hon LOUISE KINGSTON to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to my question without
notice 1273 asked on 22 October 2024 and the clearing of native jarrah and
redgum trees for upgrades to the Great Eastern Highway. I note that the sale of
this timber would provide a pathway to recoup public moneys and support the
industries that have been decimated by the closure of the forestry industry.
Will the Minister for Transport undertake to review the timber cleared in
future roadworks and ensure it is valued and utilised more productively?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
When a Main Roads Western Australia
project requires millable timber to be cleared, there is an existing process in
place for Main Roads to liaise with the Forest Products Commission to identify
and remove millable timber from the project site.
