The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) advises:
It is anticipated that the Bill to amend the
Workers' Compensation and Injury Management Act 1981
will be introduced into Parliament before the end of the current year.
The Bill will provide compensation for current and former employed and volunteer firefighters and fire fighters employed by the Department of Parks and Wildlife.
To ensure parity with current employed career fire fighters it proposed the Bill will provide compensation to persons diagnosed with a specified disease on or after 13 November 2013, which was when the presumption for current career fire fighters commenced.
