STUDENTS WITH A DISABILITY — ALTERNATIVES TO EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM
I refer to a trial conducted in 2007 by the Department of Education and Training to provide for the seamless transition from school to alternatives to employment for final year students with a disability. (1) How many students participated in the trial? (2) What level of funding was provided by the department to the trial? (3) Has an evaluation been conducted by the department on the effectiveness of the trial; and, if yes, what were the findings of the evaluation? The minister has provided the following response — (1) Forty. (2) The amount was $353 840. (3) Yes. The seamless transition trial provided a smooth transition of students with high support needs in education support schools into post-school options. Feedback through surveys provided to parents, schools and service providers was highly positive. The trial provided opportunities for the students to experience positive transition outcomes, as the links between the school and the service provider were in place before the students left school. The majority of parents engaging in the program recommended the program to other parents of students with a disability. Requests were received from parents, schools and service providers to continue with the program in 2008. (4) Yes.
