TAXI REGULATION - NUMBER OF PUBLIC SERVANTS

On behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1) In 2004, the taxi unit and the passenger transport unit were combined to form the passenger services business unit. There are currently 31 positions in the unit that collectively regulate taxis and omnibuses and manage three subsidiary schemes: the student travel subsidy scheme, the pensioner annual trip entitlement, and the taxi users’ subsidiary scheme. (2) We are unable to establish the number of persons similarly employed in 2001. However, I can advise the member that there were 15 positions allocated to the taxi unit in 2001.
