TAB — PRIVATISATION
881. Hon SAMANTHA ROWE to the
Leader of the House representing the Minister for Racing and Gaming:
I refer to comments made by Premier Colin Barnett and
Minister Terry Waldron indicating a potential privatisation of the TAB. Racing
industry employees and stakeholders involved in Ascot racing have contacted me,
with one stating that the privatisation would ''kill off the local
industry''.
(1) Is the government still intending to privatise the TAB;
and, if so, when will this occur?
(2) Will the
government recognise that any privatisation of the TAB will seriously damage
the Ascot racing community?
(3) What
policies and initiatives would the government implement in the event of a
privatisation to protect the Ascot racing industry?

(1)–(3)
On behalf of the Leader of the House, the government has not yet decided
whether it will sell the TAB.
