PSYCHIATRISTS
— CHILD AND ADOLESCENT
111. Hon STEPHEN DAWSON to the
Minister for Mental Health:
I refer to child and adolescent psychiatrists employed in the
Western Australian public health system.
(1) What has
been the number of child and adolescent psychiatrists in the WA public health
system by region for each of the past five years?
(2) What has
been the average waiting time to see a child psychiatrist in the WA public
health system by region for each of the past five years?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice of the question.
(1) Information
previous to June 2012 is not available as the information systems of the child
and adolescent health service and the child and adolescent mental health
service were not amalgamated until 2012. There were 27.73 child and adolescent
psychiatrists employed in the WA public sector in 2015 to date; 25.57 in 2014;
22.46 in 2013; and 19.01 in 2012.
(2) The wait
times for children referred to see a child and adolescent psychiatrist are not
recorded. All referrals are continually monitored and prioritised according to
clinical presentation and acuity, with children being seen by a psychiatrist as
soon as possible.
