A WA parliamentary question addresses the Minister for Education regarding the redevelopment of Newborough Primary School, contingent on the sale of other school sites. The Minister clarifies the conditions and confirms no other facilities are contingent on these specific sales, but a grant to the City of Stirling is contingent on a separate land sale.

I refer to the minister’s decision to improve the grounds and amenities of Newborough Primary School, contingent on funds becoming available from the disposal of the Scarborough Senior High School and junior primary school sites. (1) Does the minister agree that there is a need to improve the grounds and amenities at Newborough Primary School? (2) When did the minister make this contingent on the sale of the Scarborough Senior High School and junior primary school sites? (3) Is the provision of any other facilities to be made contingent on these sales? Hon PETER FOSS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The Newborough Primary School grounds would not be redeveloped under normal circumstances as they are adequate for the purposes of the school. (2) The sale of the senior high school and junior primary school sites provides the opportunity to redevelop the primary school site to allow for a standard-size oval and a more manageable site shape. The redevelopment has always been contingent upon the sale of these sites. (3) No. However, a $2.2m grant to the City of Stirling is contingent on the sale of land.
