POLICE — BODY-WORN CAMERAS
936. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
Thank you, President. Before I ask a
question, I would like to wish you a happy birthday.
Members : Hear, hear!
Hon PETER COLLIER : I can lead
a rendition of Happy Birthday ?
The PRESIDENT : Thank you,
honourable member. It is probably a good birthday present if you focus on
asking the question.
Hon PETER COLLIER : Rightio.
Happy birthday! I hope you have a great day.
The PRESIDENT : Thank you.
Hon PETER COLLIER : My
question without notice of which some notice is given is to the minister
representing the Minister for Police.
(1) Is there any
legislative impediment under the Western Australian Coroners Act, Criminal Code
or Criminal Investigation Act, or other legislation, that prevents the Western Australia
Police Force from releasing police body-worn camera footage?
(2) If no, what
government or WA Police Force policy determines decisions whether to release to
the public body-worn camera footage captured by WA police?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the Leader of the Opposition
for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me
by the Minister for Police. The Western Australia Police Force is not able to
provide an answer within the required timeframes. The honourable member is
requested to place the question on notice.
