Eligible parents have $135 forwarded to their child's school towards the payment of charges and $115 for cost of school clothing. Parents can elect to apply for Abstudy instead through Centrelink, but are not eligible for both allowances. In 2003 an initiative known as 'A Hundred Good Reasons' was introduced to assist in reducing compulsory charges in Years 11 and 12. Schools are paid $100 per student which is deducted from the course charges. Parents are eligible to receive an annual allowance of $200 for students turning 16 or 17 in Year 11 or 12 and up to $400 for those students turning 16 or 17 in full-time training, as well as in apprenticeships and traineeships, under the 'It Pays to Learn' Allowance. Application forms are available at public and private schools.
