KINROSS COLLEGE —
YEAR 11 AND 12 STUDENTS
1224. Hon DONNA FARAGHER to the Minister for Education and
Training:
I
refer to the minister's answers to questions without notice 1130 and
1172 asked in the last sitting week about the Labor Party's 2017
election commitment to provide a dedicated area for year 11 and 12 ATAR
students at Kinross College, and I now ask the following question for the third
time.
(1) Does the minister intend to
fulfil this commitment in this term of government; and, if so, when?
(2) If not, why not?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for the question.
(1)–(2) In
2017, the McGowan government made a commitment of $2.5 million to Kinross
College. That money is being used now on upgrades, including performing and
visual arts areas, textile and food technology classrooms, science labs, a library, a lecture theatre and beauty therapy
room. In addition to that, Kinross College has been allocated $630 905
in the maintenance blitz. The local member, Mark Folkard, has been a very
strong advocate for education in his electorate, in particular for senior secondary
students being at Kinross College.
Hon Donna Faragher : What
about your election commitment?
Hon SUE ELLERY : I am
answering the question.
The department is always monitoring
local enrolment trends and opportunities for future changes in provision.
The honourable member has asked a number
of questions previously about schools—some in the south east, for example, where there is an ongoing live debate
about senior secondary. I have made the point before that when that is
changed at one school, it will have a consequence on the schools around it.
Enrolments at schools in Clarkson and
Kinross are predicted to decline in coming years, and any change to education
provision at Kinross would require broad community consultation. The
local member is working with his community to ensure that he gets the best
outcome for senior secondary students in his electorate.
Several members interjected.
The PRESIDENT : Order! Hon
Nick Goiran has the call.
