The parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Regional Development is out of the house on urgent parliamentary business, and so on behalf of her I thank the member for some notice of the question. (1) Planning for both Karratha, which includes Karratha and Dampier, and Port Hedland, which includes Port Hedland and South Hedland, is currently underway to develop both towns into cities by 2035. (2) Each city is projected to grow to a population of 50 000. (3) (a) The aspiration growth of the Pilbara region is estimated at 62 000; and (b) In 10 years the Pilbara region is expected to expand to a population of 96 200. These figures include a fly in, fly out population based on current industry data.
