I refer the Premier to the rally held on the weekend against the sale of the lower lands at the Heathcote site to make way for housing. The rally was attended by hundreds of concerned people, including me. (1) When will the Premier honour the binding commitment made by the former Government and his own pre-election promise to rezone the land at Heathcote to parks and recreation? (2) When will the Premier compensate the City of Melville for the money it has outlaid for upgrading the heritage buildings on the Heathcote site? Dr GALLOP

(1)-(2) As I indicated when the media asked me about this issue on Sunday, the Government of Western Australia has many important matters before it that must be addressed - the crucial issues relating to our health system and making sure that our core services in Western Australia are properly addressed. The Government is developing the final stages of its budget. There are priorities in our timetable. We will take on board the representations on Heathcote that have been made by the local member. I visited that area last year and met with members of the community. The Government will take on board the submissions that have been made and the agreement that was entered into by the previous Government. Mr Board: When did you make your election commitment? Dr GALLOP: Will the member remind me when that agreement was entered into? The day before the election. All of those matters will be taken into account and this matter will be given proper consideration. This issue is not on the top of the list of matters that are being addressed by this Government. Mr Board: It is for these people, though. Dr GALLOP: It may well be, but the Government of Western Australia has other more pressing issues to deal with before turning its mind to that matter.
