TRANSPORT NETWORK SURVEY — MODE SHARE
712. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
My question is to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Transport.
(1) What is the
current transport mode share split in metropolitan Perth between cars, public
transport and active transport, broken down by walking and cycling, if
available?
(2) Does the WA government have a target
for a transport mode share split?
(3) If yes to (2), what is this
target?
(4) If no to (2), why not?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. I now represent the Minister for Transport, so I will
provide the answer to the honourable member.
(1) Data
currently available from the first three years of the four-year Perth area
travel and household survey shows a mode split as follows: car driver, 58.8
per cent; car passenger, 23.8 per cent; public transport, 4.1 per cent;
cycling, 1.4 per cent; and walking 11.9 per cent.
(2)–(3) Our
government is committed to providing Western Australians with more transport
options through Metronet and a record investment in active transport.
(4) Not
applicable.
