COWARAMUP PRIMARY SCHOOL
865. Hon STEVE MARTIN to the Minister for Education and
Training:
I refer to the media statement dated
10 October 2022 from Hon Jackie Jarvis, MLC, advising that funding has been
allocated to Cowaramup Primary School to repair the sagging roof.
(1) Is this new
funding or has it been carried over from the budget for maintenance works not
carried out at Cowaramup Primary School last financial year?
(2) How much money has been
allocated to undergo these specific repairs?
(3) Is the
funding only to fix sagging roofs in rooms 2 and 3, or will other critical
works also be undertaken?
(4) Will the works include fixing the deteriorating
ceiling in the administration building, which is in a dangerous state of
disrepair; and, if not, why not, and when will this work be prioritised?
(5) When will the
Minister for Education and Training commit funding for all works listed in the
2016 audit?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. Reading it quickly does not make the question any
shorter, honourable member! Nevertheless, I have an answer for him.
(1)–(5) Following
advocacy from Hon Jackie Jarvis, MLC, member for South West, $60 000 has been
allocated to remediate the sagging roof in rooms 2 and 3 at Cowaramup Primary
School. This is new funding from the Department of Education's 2022–23
central maintenance budget and work will be undertaken during the December and
January school holidays to minimise disruption for students. All high-risk
maintenance and minor works items identified in the most recent building
condition assessment have been remediated. I also note that in 2019, as part of
the McGowan government's maintenance blitz, approximately $75 000 was allocated to Cowaramup Primary School for
maintenance and minor works. Further, the school received a $40 000
science equipment grant last year as part of the primary school science program
election commitment. I am pleased to be able
to deliver these important maintenance works for Cowaramup Primary School.
